🍹 Ford Explorer 4.0 Engine Problems

July 1999. I have the chitti chitti bang bang noise in my 1999 Ford Ranger, 4x4, 4.0L engine. It sounds more like a diesel engine than a gas powered engine when cold. Almost as if a few valves need adjusted. After the engine warms up, though, it is not so bad. It sounds more like a sporty gurgle at that point. The Ford 4.0L V-6 engines, built in Germany, are found in Ford Explorers and Rangers through the year 2000 when production of the OHV engine stopped and the concurrent 4.0-litre SOHC engine took over. With proper maintenance, these Ford 4.0L OHV V-6 engines are reliable and ours had powered us on many adventures deep into the backwoods and reducer not restrictor. The oil restrictor is actually a galley chamber volume reducer. It's purpose is to decrease "dry start" time so the tensioner gets oil pressure sooner. It was included in the 00M12 kit.
